Passenger and Crew Safety

  • Life vests with at least 33.7lbs of buoyancy will be on board the vessel. Life jackets shall be equipped with a whistle, a waterproof light, be fitted with marine‐grade retro‐reflective material and be clearly marked with the vessel’s name and port of registry.
  • Regular checks will be done to ensure the integrity is not compromised.

 

Fire Safety

  • Fire extinguisher(s) will be readily available for emergency use.
  • Regular checks will be done and documented to ensure that they are in proper operational condition.
  • Staff will be trained on proper use of same.
  • Staff will also be trained in proper evacuation procedures, should this be required.

 

Sound Producing Equipment

  • The vessel will be equipped with a sound making device that meets U.S. Coast Guard standards, as needed.

 

Visual Distress Equipment

  • The vessel will be equipped with SOLAS orange smoke flares not older than the expiration date.

 

Safety Diagram

  • The vessel shall post a durable, waterproof diagram or chart locating the principal items of safety and through hulls in the main accommodation area where it can be easily seen.

 

Safety at Sea Training

The vessel will ensure that all captains and crew members hold valid STCW training certificates within the last 5 years, and other courses accepted by the BMA, US Coast Guard, and IMO governing bodies
